Thu, 28 September 2006 SUPERIOR SPORTSTALK: Thursday football, and what's up with T.O.? On this edition of Superior SportsTalk, host Charles Jay takes a look at the Thursday college football games - TCU vs. BYU and Auburn vs. South Carolina - in his "Jay's Plays" segment. He also renders his own evaluation of the latest dramatic developments in Dallas surrounding Terrell Owens. It's scathing, to say the least.

Tue, 26 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Southern Miss looks to build ground game The Southern Miss Golden Eagles may have found a go-to running back in freshman Damion Fletcher, who ran for 177 yards against N.C. State last week. In Tuesday night's game, he'll line up against a Central Florida defense that returned nine starters from a year ago. The Knights have a veteran QB in Steven Moffett and a running attack that has yet to find itself, but may break through with Kevin Smith back from a one-game suspension. Charles Jay of Total Action Radio examines this ESPN2-televised matchup. Lines are provided by SuperiorBook.com Comments[0] |
Mon, 25 September 2006 SUPERIOR SPORTSTALK: The Saints march in again, but will they march to the winner's circle? There will be lots of fanfare when the Louisiana Superdome opens for business again on Monday night. And there will be lots of sentiment for the New Orleans Saints, who have come out of the gate with two straight wins. Can the Atlanta Falcons overcome all that favoritism, from both the fans and the media? Surely they have plenty of ammunition at their disposal, with a vaunted running attack and their elusive quarterback, Michael Vick. Will that be enough? Charles Jay takes a look at the matchup on this edition of Superior SportsTalk. Brought to you by SuperiorBook.com

Sat, 23 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: BC, Nebraska looking to preserve national rankings Boston College has been through hell and back, and has come out of it unbeaten. The Eagles are coming off two straight double-overtime games, beating Clemson and BYU and rolling into Raleigh with one of the top passing offenses in the country. N.C. State coach Chuck Amato finds himself on the hot seat, and turns to a new QB, local kid Daniel Evans, to help get the anemic offense moving. Nebraska went to the west coast last week, but didn't bring the West Coast offense with it, or so it seems, as the Huskers were shut down by USC. This week they face pesky Troy, which almost upset Florida State and Georgia Tech in consecutive weeks. Charles Jay of Total Action Radio looks at both those games, along with two more, in today's update.

The Pittsburgh Steelers stride into Jacksonville tonight as a favorite against the Jaguars, and have played it close to the vest as far as whether Ben Roethlisberger is going to start at quarterback. Whether he does or not, the Jaguars are going to have a challenge handling the Pittsburgh ground game. They're in better shape to do that now with Marcus Stroud returning to the lineup, although Reggie Hayward, their top sackmeister, is out. Can Byron Leftwich and the Jags rise to the occasion at home? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio tries to figure the whole thing out. Lines are provided by SuperiorBook.com

Sun, 17 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Seattle tries to mount an attack against Arizona What in the world happened to the offense of the Seattle Seahawks? Able to only muster field goals against Detroit last week, Matt Hasselbeck (25 for 30 last week) and Company will try to get into the end zone against Arizona, which has a high-powered offense but let Alex Smith pass for 288 yards in their win last Sunday. Charles Jay of Total Action Radio focuses on this late NFL matchup. Lines provided by SuperiorBook.com

Mon, 11 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Raiders on the rebound, and Vikes starting anew A rarity tonight, in that there will be two Monday night games in the NFL. In the first, the Washington Redskins, with Clinton Portis in a limited role if any, take on the Minnesota Vikings, who made a playoff run despite a lot of off-field turmoil, then fired coach Mike Tice in favor of Brad Childress. Minnesota has a beefy offensive line to go against Washington's defense. And speaking of defense, will the Oakland Raiders show any this year? If it's up to new coach Art Shell, they will, and if Randy Moss doesn't provide a T.O.-like story for Al Davis. They line up against the San Diego Chargers, who break in new QB Philip Rivers tonight. What will happen? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio takes a shot at prognosticating it all. Lines provided by SuperiorBook.com

Sun, 10 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: T.O. era begins in Dallas; is it beginning of end of Favre era? (4 PM games) Terrell Owens makes his Cowboys debut today against Jacksonville, which will be without All-Pro defensive lineman Marcus Stroud. Brett Favre seeks success against the vaunted Chicago Bears defense, and will the Cardinals be inspired by a new stadium and a new star (Edgerrin James) in the backfield? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio tries to anser that question and more as he handicaps the late games. Lines provided by SuperiorBook.com

Sun, 10 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Old & new QB's start over for Jets, Titans, Saints, even Bills (1 PM Games) New England's defense intercepted Buffalo's J.P. Losman three times last season in a 35-7 win. Losman is once again the Bills' starter, while Tom Brady works with an offense that is thinner at wide receiver but deeper at running back with the addition of Lawrence Maroney. Kerry Collins is the new starter at QB - for now - in Tennessee, while Vince Young learns the ropes. Chad Pennington is back from injury with the Jets, as is Drew Brees with the New Orleans Saints. How will they all do, and what impact will it have on the outcome of NFL openers? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio handicaps the early-starting NFL matchups. Lines are provided by SuperiorBook.com

Sat, 9 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Can Texas get it done without Vince? This weekend in college football will go a long way toward determining the eventual national champion. And it's only September 10. The top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes visit Austin to play the defending champion Texas Longhorns. Last year's Texas hero - Vince Young - has been replaced by redshirt freshman Colt McCoy at the quarterback position. But Ohio State has to replace nine starters on defense. OSU quarterback Troy Smith, who can run and pass with equal abandon, is vying to become this year's version of Young. Can Texas stop him and his speedy wideout, Ted Ginn? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio takes a look at this evening matchup, along with a lower-profile game in the state of Texas - SMU vs.North Texas. Sat, 9 September 2006 JAY'S PLAYS: Irish eyes - will they be smiling? Notre Dame had a disappointing debut on offense, as the Irish could muster just 14 points against Georgia Tech. Coach Charlie Weis looks for a more consistent performance this week, while Penn State coach Joe Paterno hopes for continued development of his talented junior QB, Anthony Morelli. The Nittany Lions have a lot of speed and the best set of linebackers in college football. Is that enough to come away with a win, or a cover, in South Bend? Charles Jay of Total Action Radio looks at this game, and throws in his four-star college play of the week.
